As part of the conference, PAMCA is organizing two training courses on gene drive technologies. Applications for both these courses are now open until June 25.<\/p>\n<p>The training courses are intended to provide a basic technical understanding of gene drive technologies and will cover topics such as public acceptance, regulatory issues and ecological concerns. African graduate students, researchers in biology, medicine, social science, policy makers, as well as health professionals with an interest in genetics and biotechnology, are invited to apply.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1991\" src=\"https:\/\/genedrivenetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/DNA_CC_5-ec8-scaled.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" caption=\"false\" srcset=\"https:\/\/genedrivenetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/DNA_CC_5-ec8-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/genedrivenetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/DNA_CC_5-ec8-1280x720.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/genedrivenetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/DNA_CC_5-ec8-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/genedrivenetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/DNA_CC_5-ec8-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/genedrivenetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/DNA_CC_5-ec8-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/genedrivenetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/DNA_CC_5-ec8-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/pamca.org\/en\/resources\/news\/44\/call-for-application:-gene-drive-short-course:-from-research-to-acceptance-and-implementation\">3-day training course <\/a>will take place from September 15 to 17 around the theme: Novel Vector Control Strategies: From Research to Acceptance and Implementation. Experts from a number of institutions including the Institut de Recherche en Sciences de la Sant\u00e9 (IRSS), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/\">Imperial College London<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvri.go.ug\/\">Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucdavis.edu\/\">University of California, Davis<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lstmed.ac.uk\/\">Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM)<\/a>, will be facilitating this training.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/pamca.org\/en\/resources\/news\/45\/call-for-application:-foundation-gene-drive-short-course\">1-day training course<\/a> will be held on September 17, and will convene facilitators from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihi.or.tz\/\">Ifakara Health Institute (IHI)<\/a>, Imperial College London, and from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.<\/p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA) will be holding the 9th edition of its Annual Conference &amp; Exhibition from September 17-21, 2023, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
